I've been spending a lot of time with family and friends lately: walks, park trips with my dog, movie theater showings, birthday celebrations, restaurants, mall outings, a picnic, a baseball game with fireworks, TV shows, and--of course--great conversation. Today, I saw Ex Machina and then went out to eat at a sushi place (I ordered teriyaki chicken because I'm a chicken {pun unintended} when it comes to seafood).

Since I finished the newest draft of Inevitable Dusk on May 9th, I'm going to start the editing on June 9th. I hope to get it out to my first proofreader and editor before the end of August.

While distancing myself from Inevitable Dusk, I've been working on my first chick-lit, Unquenchable. I'm forcing myself not to go back and rewrite and edit and nitpick because otherwise I'd never get a full first draft.

Yesterday, I finished my new draft of Inevitable Dusk. I'd say that about 85% of it is totally rewritten. I have tons of editing to do and plot holes, etc. to fix, but the first step is done!

So, I'm going to set aside the draft for a couple weeks (which will take self-restraint) before tackling editing to get a little distance from it. Maybe even for a month.

For now, I'll probably resume work on Unquenchable, which is the first book in my chick-lit series. It's a more lighthearted story than Inevitable Dusk. I'll also try to do some more substantial plotting for the sequel to Inevitable Dusk, tentatively to be called Through a Mirror Dimly.

Well, I had about a month of very little writing. I'm getting back into the swing of things; over 2,000 words tonight, bringing me up to past 70,000 words for Inevitable Dusk. I'd say I have about 20k to go. I'm hoping to keep it below 100k.

So, far NaNo, I'm first doing Inevitable Dusk, and if I finish this draft before the end of the month, I'll move onto another of my projects. Day 1, I wrote over 1,800 words, but on days 2 and 3 I didn't write much at all.

More flash fiction will hopefully be on the way soon. I need to continue with Ladies Bingo, and finally answer an awesome prompt from someone that I asked for for Halloween last year.

I hope my fellow NaNoers are getting all the caffeine they need. I had a large pumpkin spice latte, because yum.

Just a quick post to say I hit 60,000 words tonight.

In reading news, I bought The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan as well as The Brothers Grimm Volume II, 110 Grimmer Fairy Tales. The latter is for autumn/ Halloween season. Also on my autumn lineup are Frankenstein Mary Shelley (I'm due for a re-read) and The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

I will also be posting flash fiction, and may link to a blog I want to renew.

I've hit the 50,000 word mark for the new draft of Inevitable Dusk. Whoo! It might be close to the original count of 80,000, even though most of the material is new or greatly altered. And then there's the sequel. I think 75k-80k is a good length to shoot for, for both of Acio's books. Then I can move onto Sammy's story.

So, I think I can finish Inevitable Dusk by the end of the year. I'd like to finish Tsirris by the end of next year, along with Unquenchable (a book I haven't discussed here yet).

It's almost four in the morning so I should try to sleep.

More plot points are clicking together! I'm so glad I'm rewriting this thing. It's a really different book.

About my flash fiction:
I received a prompt last autumn with a Halloween theme. It's a long time coming, but I hope to post it soon (maybe I'll wait until autumn? Since it would be more appropriate). And I'm going to start the 100 Themes Challenge I linked to. So far, one friend gave me number 87 to do, which is "Gunshot."

I'm doing the 100-days-of-writing challenge (writing every day, even if it's like five words sometimes). I just finished day seven, and I've been writing over 500 words a day. I'm now about 43.7k into this draft. It's going to need a lot of polishing.

In other news, I've been having so much fun with QR codes on Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I plan to share my dream town link soon!

The link is here.

My rewrite of Inevitable Dusk is at about 37,000 words now, and I'm thinking this draft might end up around 90,000 (the original was 80,000). Over the past few years, I've learned a lot and grown a bit, and I think the story is much better for it.

Hopefully, I'll post some flash fiction by Saturday!

In case anyone's interested, the link to the excerpt of my entered novel, Inevitable Dusk, is here. This will also serve as a quick link for myself. If the URL is wrong or anything, let me know. :)
